Transitions for Women

THANKS TO GUESTS & SPONSORS, PWC DONATIONS REACH $217,000

  - October 16, 2009

More than 750 friends gathered on Oct 14 to help Transitions raise over $217,000! At the Wednesday breakfast and lunch, guests were treated to information and inspiration from Spokesman Features Writer, Rebecca Nappi, as well as two Transitions alumnae, Keri Perdue and Colleen Bell.

Nappi shared her experience as a long-time participant in the Friday knitting circle at the Women's Hearth, explaining that regardless of their personal circumstances, when women gather to share their knowledge and experience, "there is no us and them, just us and us."

Keri Perdue shared her story of growth in both skill and confidence as a trainee in the New Leaf Bakery Cafe Job Training Program. Keri is now employed as assistant to the chef-instructor of the New Leaf and runs the Cafe kiosk in the Catholic Charities lobby. Colleen Bell, a Miryam's House alumna, shared her personal story of triumph over mental illness and abuse. Summing up her experience with our programs, Colleen said, "Transitions didn't make my life perfect, it made my life possible."

Due to the generosity of our local sponsors, 100% of the money raised will go directly into services that help homeless and low-income women build more stable, productive and independent lives.
