Transitions for Women

Choose to See

  - February 14, 2009

There will always be poor people in the land. Therefore I command you to be openhanded toward those of your people who are poor and needy in your land. Deuteronomy 15:11

Who will choose to see? Who will unclench their hand toward the poor?

Transitions is an organization that continues to survive, to persevere through the storms of budget short falls. We see needs in our community beyond what we are currently doing and continue to figure out ways to meet those needs for women and children.

Nationwide, 74.8% of all donations come from individuals, 82.3% if you include bequests (2007 Giving USA). At Transitions, 16% of our donations come from individuals.

State funding sources for the homeless population we serve come from real estate sales tax. The state budget is being reduced and will impact our bottom line in the coming year.

We can no longer wait on the sidelines and rely on the government to make up the difference. We need to choose to make a difference, to see the issues that our community is facing and increase giving to the programs that are helping out the most vulnerable in Spokane.

If you are not already a regular donor, will you consider a regular donation (every month for a year) of either $10 or $20 (more if you are able) during this 2009 year? That is either $120 or $240 dollars. Our hope is that many of you will make this commitment because we need you! You will read in this newsletter a variety of stories about women and children who have used our services. Be a hero to these families by donating this year.

There are three ways you can do this:

1. Set up your online bill pay to send a contribution every month.

2. Use your credit card to set up monthly payments.

3. Have us send 12 envelopes and use one each month.

Whichever method works best for you know that your donation will directly help the women and children who come seeking hope. If you haven’t noticed already, there is one of those annoying "fall-out" pieces in this newsletter! You can use it to let us know your wishes.

If you help the poor, you are lending to the LORD--and God will repay you! Proverbs 19:17
