Women Publicly Voice Concern

  - June 22, 2008

The Women’s Justice Circles from the Women’s Hearth collectively expressed concern about the recent loss of low-income housing in Spokane as a result of redevelopment, and the effects of redevelopment on low-income and homeless people in the community. They supported revitalization of the city, but wanted to make sure all of the city’s residents would be cared for during the ongoing efforts.  The Circle organized a panel discussion, titled “Responsible Redevelopment: Good Housing is Good for Business,” in order to further educate the community and to stimulate discussion.

The women who participated in the Women’s Justice Circle felt empowered by their ability to publicly voice their concerns about redevelopment and to be heard by influential members of the Spokane community.  Many of them look forward to participating in another Women’s Justice Circle in the future.
