Miryam’s- Open All the Gifts Time Brings- January 22, 2009 |
A Miryam’s House resident recently moved to her own apartment. Suffering from MS and healing from an abusive relationship, this woman learned to cherish and believe in herself during her stay at Miryam’s. She now balances self-care with her desire to do all there is to do in life. Her most recent creative venture involves the writing of poetry and prose.
Gifts of Time
At first I notice with dismay
Age closing in
Looking in the mirror;
Seeing my reflection
Seeing my loosening skin.
Behind those puffs of skin
There’s wisdom that I draw on to express me.
Learning to refrain from hiding, shutting down, covering up,
Continuing to become open, raw, real, free.
Darkening dips below my eyes while the world continues to revolve
And time continues to tick, tick,
In its passing, it evolves me.
My knowledge gains speed from my experiences
While I grip onto time’s body tight:
Adeptness continues to develop at weaving through obstacles
I gallop on the ground of life’s insights.
While seeking, searching, wandering, exploring the landscape
My eyes draw life into a bouquet for me.
Wisdom comes along for the ride
And helps to clear the path that I see.
Now that I am learning to know you
You have become my best friend
The slowing steps, the wider thinking, the actions that I take
To make myself and others mend.
Time and all its gifts
All the answers it brings into view
Losing youth but gaining so much more
Open all the gifts that time brings to you.
