TLC-Believe in the Spirit of the Season

  - January 6, 2009

The joys of Christmas are many ... and among the most special moments are those times when children’s faces light up with surprise and wonder.  While some youngsters are accustomed to lavish gifts year after year, for others, it’s only a dream.  Thanks to United Airlines’ annual magical event, “Fantasy Flight,” kids living in poverty have the chance to experience holiday bliss.  At Transitions, we are excited and blessed that our children at Transitional Living Center and EduCare are included.

“For the children in our programs, it’s not just the party and presents of Fantasy Flight that matter.  More importantly, the experience shows them that GOOD, POSITIVE experiences can be had during the holiday season  and that people in our community care about them,” says Kristin Talbott, Program Director for Transitional Living Center and EduCare

During “Fantasy Flight,” children  from low-income homes go to  Spokane International Airport where they meet their personal elf that Santa picked especially for them. Their elves help them board  a  flight to the North Pole.  A wonderful, imaginary adventure occurs on the airplane, and when it  “ lands ,” the imaginary adventure continues as the children are greeted at Santa’s work shop (a decorated hanger at the airport). There, they play games, listen to stories by Mrs. Clause, eat wonderful sweets, and  receive a very special personal gift from Santa (something parents   choose ahead of time ).   And when it’s time to leave, a limousine returns them to Transitional Living Center.   “It’s truly magical,” says Kristin.  “It gives them a chance to believe in the spirit of the season. “
